Caroline is named after Caroline Herchel, one of the few women who had a big impact on astronomy. In 1786, she discovered her first comet and discovered a few more throughout her life. She was the first woman to receive a Gold Medal from London’s Royal Astronomical Society, and was the first female astronomer to be paid for her work.
