Wearing one dress three ways? Made of cotton lace with hand-sewn beads into the lace to create sparkles, Janaki is incredibly delicate and fun to wear. Brides can wear them with short sleeves, long sleeves, or no sleeves. This beautiful fit and flare dress is truly one of a kind.
Janaki is named after Janaki Ammal, the first Indian botanist and the first to receive a Ph.D. degree in the U.S in 1931. A pioneering botanist and cytogeneticist, Janaki Ammal is credited with putting sweetness in India's sugarcane varieties, which India can grow on its own land instead of importing. At 80 years old, she spoke against the hydroelectric project in Kerala's Silent Valley, which houses endangered orchids and nearly 1,000 species of endemic flowering plants. She is regarded as one of India's finest plant scientists.
